Legend of Zelda Fan-generated rumors were "Frustrating" for Donkey Kong Developers When Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports of the company working on an entirely new Zelda game.
The artist previously worked with PlayStation's Uncharted series and, for reasons unknown, it inspired fans to form connections D2R Items. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually developing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze at the time, and when the game's release date was announced in the first place, a lot of Zelda players slammed it as they were expecting something different. In a recent interview on Kiwi Talkz, the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky explained how the rumor led to anger for the team working on the game.
"Sometimes it's frustrating since it leads to false expectations. This was the case when we first announced Tropical Freeze. Everyone was thinking 'they're working on an Zelda game They're working on an Zelda game', but then they said nope. We announced Tropical Freeze and it looks amazing and gorgeous and then people say "oh, it's another Donkey Kong.'
Then you realize that people are going on about it on Neogaf or something and you're thinking 'oh, you know, because everybody believed we were playing something similar to a Zelda game, and then it's like we don't do that. is happening buy D2R ladder items.' It's both and sometimes we get a laugh out of it, but sometimes it becomes annoying when it goes on for a time," said Kozlowsky.
